Attractive Agents Sell Homes for More Money?
After 30+ years in the business I immediately took offense to this article. I started reading it, while in my mind I was composing a good reprimand to the author, Then, when I realized in the end it all balanced out and truly it didn't make a difference. I believe that this study should never have been titled this, which is what I took offense to, is the title. I think that our society puts way to much influence on attractive to mean looks and for this article to be titled that was offensive to me. Immediately I think of the guy modeling tight jeans with a 6 pack, the ad for Joe Boxer shorts and the starving models with false boobs, eyelashes, bottom rib removed, air brushed skin and hair that will never be the same color and will take them a life time to discover what color it really is, does anyone care? I believe that no matter who you are or what you do, you need to work on an appropriate style for you. A style that makes you comfortable and makes your inner self shine. In real estate I believe that clients who sell 500 thousand dollar homes and some in the lower price range are very much stuck on the packaging of the person they hire. The appearance and facades in everything, including but not limited to name brands, from clothing to cars, to pens and watches. I guess this article would be enlightening to them to discover that the package they hired, really doesn't deliver them any more dollars or any shorter of market time. We in business have spent so much time trying to make everyone adhere to the wall street dress code that we have failed to help or teach people to develop a style. We have managed to teach people you are what you wear, but failed to teach them to recognize a style that is complimentary to the individual. To teach not to judge ones ability by what they wear. To recognize individuality. To learn to read body language, eye contact and vocal tones. To know that clothes is the style of the wearer..We need to teach ourselves to put up mirrors and check oneself out to be conscious of the image I have. I must know that the clothes I wear is and has always presented an impression of who I am. As my Grandmother told my Mother and my Mother told me and I have told my children, "Don't judge a book by it's cover.". Have a lovely day.
